Boston University Athletics partners with BU’s Sargent Choice Nutrition Center (SCNC) to provide a variety of nutrition services to student athletes. Sarah Gilbert, SCNC’s lead sports dietitian, oversees the Terrier Fueling Station and offers team talks, interactive workshops and individual nutrition counseling.

Student athletes have access to the full SCNC team of seven registered dietitians with expertise in food allergies and sensitivities, digestive disorders, eating disorders, women’s health, vegetarian and vegan meal planning, and health promotion. Learn more about our staff here.

TERRIER FUELING STATION VOLUNTEERS
The Terrier Fueling station is completely run by student volunteers and Sargent College practicum students. If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to Sarah Gilbert at sarahfg@bu.edu.

Student Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Engage with student athletes with a friendly, approachable attitude
  • Assist in stocking and inventory of fueling station products
  • Assist in preparation of fresh smoothies for athletes

Available Shifts:
Morning: 6-10 a.m.
Midday: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Monday and Wednesday only)
Afternoon: 2-6 p.m.

The Terrier Fueling Station is a centerpiece for sports nutrition training and experience. Sargent College students who are interested in a sports nutrition practicum or internship should reach out to their program advisor.

Sargent College Undergraduate Practicum Students (75 hours, one fueling station shift per week)
In addition to volunteering in the fueling station, gain experience creating sports nutrition content, conduct sports specific research and get face time with collegiate athletes and sports dietitians.

Sargent College Graduate Practicum Students (150 hours, two fueling station shifts per week, manager role)
In addition to assisting in managing the fueling station, the practicum offers face time with collegiate athletes and sports dietitians. Gain experience delivering a team talk, guiding a dining hall tour and observing individual counseling sessions.

Sargent College Dietetic Interns
Dietetic interns will assist with a variety of projects including but not limited to, developing and delivering team talks, leading workshops, creating educational materials, leading grocery store and dining hall tours, observing counseling sessions, attending any coaches meetings and assisting with meal plan creation.
