BOSTON - Junior Andrew Dorman (Flintshire, Wales) scored two goals and had two assists to lead the Boston University men's soccer team to a season-ending 5-2 victory over Vermont on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 3) at Nickerson Field.

With the win, the Terriers finished their 2002 campaign with an 8-6-3 overall record and a 3-3-1 mark in America East action. The win also ensured Terrier head coach Neil Roberts his 19th consecutive winning season in 19 years at the helm. Vermont falls to 10-6-1 overall and 5-2-0 in the conference.

"We haven't been in this situation in a while-having the last game of the season not really meaning anything," said Roberts.

"I wasn't sure how we would respond. But we came to play against one of the league's top teams."

Senior back David Fahey (Plainfield, NJ), one of four seniors who would play their final game for B.U., scored the first of a season-high five Terrier goals. Sophomore back Erik Evjen (Askim, Norway) started the scoring opportunity, sending a long pass into the left side of the box to classmate Federico Bianchi (Pacific Palisades, CA). The midfielder slipped a pass to the far side of the box to an open Fahey who kicked the ball into the lower right corner of the net at 13:36.

Off a corner by Dorman, senior forward E.A. Carr (Independence, OH) deflected a ball high in the box and Bianchi sent a header into the right side of the net to give B.U. a 2-0 lead at 26:33.

Senior Anthony D'Angelo (Tewskbury, MA) extended the lead to 3-0 when a long direct kick by Dorman was sent into the box. D'Angelo flicked the ball high into the net for the Terriers' third goal at 30:45.

Less than a minute later, junior forward Alan McNamara (Woodview Raheem, Ireland) raced along the left sideline and found Dorman open in the box. Dorman sent a header high into the center of the net to give B.U. a 4-0 advantage at 31:40.

The Terriers, who would hold on to the 4-0 through halftime, out-shot the Catamounts, 18-6, in the first half.

"We played extremely well in the first half," said Roberts. "We really put our chances away."

Vermont back Keli Helgason netted the Catamounts first goal at 55:38, firing direct kick past a wall of B.U. players from 35-feet out.

Ronan Keegan came off the bench to narrow the gap to 4-2 when he drew Terrier senior goalkeeper Matt Smith (Lanchester, England) out of the box and sent a shot into the net at 68:59.

But the Terriers regrouped quickly, as Dorman netted his second goal of the game and team-leading sixth goal of the season at 69:59. McNamara and Carr each earned assists on the Dorman tally.

Smith, earning his eighth win of the season, finished the game with four saves. Smith will complete his career as the Terriers' fourth all-time saves leader with 213 saves. Smith's 100 saves in 2002 also rank as the fourth-highest single-season total in B.U. men's soccer history.

Vermont goalkeeper Ryan Corry made three saves and allowed four goals in the first 45 minutes of play. David Sullivan relieved Corry in the second half and stopped one shot while allowing one goal.
