Andrea Di Blasio's 36th-minute goal and senior
William Clavier's three saves, the Boston University men's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over Navy at Nickerson Field Saturday afternoon.
With their second clean sheet of the season, the Terriers improve to 4-2-0 and 1-1-0 in Patriot League play, as the Midshipmen (2-3-4, 0-1-1 PL) suffered their third shutout loss of the year.
Clavier recorded three saves during his first career collegiate appearance, and sophomore
Dylan Williams collected his second assist of the year on Di Blasio's second goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- BU dominated possession in the first half, recording all six shot attempts and earning four corner kicks.
- During the 14th minute, senior Ryan Lau curled BU's second corner toward the front of the net, forcing Robert Eaton to make the first of his five saves with extended arms that helped push the ball over the net.
- Eaton earned another save at 15:09 on a 12-yard low shot from senior Ethan Gill.
- The Terriers eventually broke the deadlock in the 35th minute with Di Blasio pouncing on a loose ball for a goal that was set up by Williams running into the box and sending a shot that deflected off a Navy defender.
- BU seemingly added another goal minutes later but it was waved off on a hand ball.
- Trying to net the equalizer in the second half, Navy earned its first two corner kicks during the 52nd minute, but the BU backline held strong.
- Clavier made his first career save at 56:39 on a grounder from Andrew Schug.
- He added two more in the 77th and 84th minutes, respectively, to claim the shutout.
- BU forced Eaton to make three saves as well and expertly drained the clock over the final two minutes with the help of two corner kicks to prevent any chance of a comeback.
