
Sean Fields
Junior goalie Sean Fields (Edmonton, ALTA), whose 65 saves in two games helped lead the Terriers to the Great Lakes Invitational Tournament title this past weekend, has been named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week.
It is the latest honor for Fields as a result of his efforts last weekend as he was named to the All-Tournament Team as the goalie and was also voted the tourney's Most Valuable Player.
Fields opened the tournament with a 28-save effort in the Terriers' 6-1 win over Michigan State. En route to notching his ninth win of the season, he had 10 saves in the first period, 7 in the second, and a game-high 11 in the third.
Then, in the 5-4 title-game win over Michigan, he had 37 saves, 18 of which came in the first period and 14 in the second.
This marks the fourth time this year that Fields has been recognized by the league for his play. However, the previous three weeks he was named to the Hockey East Honor Roll. The first came after a weekend sweep of Northeastern and New Hampshire on November 1st and 2nd. He. had 21 saves in 7-6 win over the Huskies and 42 saves in 3-2 win over the Wildcats.
His second appearance on the Honor Roll came after he turned aside 36-of-38 shots in the Terriers' 3-2 win over UMass-Lowell on November 21st. He was then named to the Honor Roll after stopping 24-of-25 Rensselaer shots in the 4-1 win over Engineers on December 10th. The win over Rensselaer was the Terriers' last game until the Great Lakes Invitational.
Fields is the fourth Terrier this season to win a weekly award from Hockey East. The others were
Sophomore forward Justin Maiser (Edina, MN), who was the Hockey East Koho Player of the Week after scoring 3-2-5 in weekend sweep of Northeastern and New Hampshire. He had career-high 2-2-4, including the game-winner in 7-6 victory over NU on November 1st. Then, in the 3-2 win over UNH the following evening, he had 1-0-1, including the game-winner.
Freshman defenseman Jekabs Redlihs (Riga, Latvia) was the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Ice Breaker Tournament. He scored game-tying goal in the third period of the Northern Michigan game on October 11th and added two assists in the 4-1 title-game win over Rensselaer on October 12th.
Freshman defenseman Dan Spang (Winchester) was the Hockey East Rookie of the Week after picking up two assists and a plus-3 in 4-1 win over Rensselaer on December 10th.
