BOSTON - Boston University field hockey head coach Sally Starr announced the addition of five student-athletes who will attend Boston University and play field hockey for the Terriers beginning in the 2002 season.
The student-athletes who have signed National Letters of Intent are:
Caitlyn Cassara, an attacker/midfielder from North Caldwell, NJ, comes to B. U. after earning Second Team All-Essex County honors for West Essex High School. A three-year starter and captain during her senior season, Cassara was a member of the West Essex team that won the North Jersey Group II Sectional Championship in 2000. She was also a member of the Spirit Eagles Hockey Club during her junior and senior seasons.
Colleen McClay was named an NFCHA High School Second Team All-American in 2001. A center/midfielder from Mahopac, NY, McClay was an All-State and All-Section selection for Mahopac High School. She participated in the Junior Olympics, as well as the National Futures Under-19 Tournament. She was a member of the Hudson Valley Field Hockey Club Team.
Ashley Parker, a midfielder at Cheshire High School in Cheshire, CT, led her team to the 2000 Class L state championship with a 17-3 record. Parker was an alternate to the National Futures Program, and was an All-Southern Connecticut Conference Academic Team member in 2000.
Amy Seaman, a midfielder from Cedar Cliff, PA, was a member of the USFHA Futures Elite Program since 1999 and participated in the National Futures Tournament in 1998 and 2001. She was named a Mid-Penn All-Star all four years at Cedar Cliff, and was selected to take part in the Junior Olympics in 1998. She was a member of the Storm Troopers club team.
In addition, B. U. announced that Erin Prediger, a goalkeeper from Souderton Area High School in Telford, PA, will attend Boston University and play for the field hockey team starting with the 2002 season. Prediger was an All-League Second Team selection following her junior and senior seasons. She attended the National Futures Tournament "B" Camp in 2001 and was selected to play in the Junior Olympics and the USFHA Futures Elite Program.
After finishing second in the regular season in the America East Conference last year, the Terriers will enter 2002 with a young team. Returning are All-Rookie Team members Meredith Long and Kara Rossi. The Terriers finished with an 8-11 overall record and a 6-3 conference mark.
