Staten Island, N.Y. - Junior forward Becky Bonner (Concord, NH) hit the game-winning three-pointer with 52 seconds to play as the B.U. women's basketball team defeated host-Wagner, 69-68, at the Spiro Sports Center on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
Junior forward Adrienne Norris (Delafield, WI) led the Terriers with team-highs of 22 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and five steals as B.U. (4-4, 0-0) picked up its fourth win in five games.
Wagner's Joy Gallagher scored a game-high 33 points off a school-record 11 three-pointers and Carrie Walker had 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for the Seahawks (4-6, 0-0).
Gallagher hit six of her first eight three-point field goal attempts to give Wagner a 31-21 advantage at 9:15 in the first half.
Sophomore guard Nadia Bibbs (Oak Forest, IL) scored five points during a 16-6 Terrier rally as B.U. knotted the score, 37-37, at halftime.
Senior guard Katie Terhune (Port Murray, NJ) and Norris hit a pair of three-pointers as B.U. took its largest lead of the game, 51-46, at 13:41 in the second half.
The two teams exchanged leads six times until Gallagher hit her 11th three-pointer of the game to give Wagner a 67-66 advantage with 1:46 to play.
With just under a minute to play, Bonner handled the ball at the top of the key with her defender waiting in the lane. The 6-foot-2 forward picked up her dribble and drained her fourth three-pointer of the game to put B.U. ahead for good.
Wagner's Carrie Walker had a chance to tie the score, but she missed the second of a pair of free throws and B.U. held the Seahawks off the scoreboard for the final 16 seconds of play.
Bonner finished with 14 points and six rebounds while junior forward Larissa Parr (Eau Claire, WI) had 11 points, seven boards, and three assists.
For just the second time this season, B.U. outrebounded its opponent, 48-45, and had a season-high 22 offensive rebounds.
The Terriers close out their non-conference schedule with a home game against Marist on Saturday, Jan. 3, at 1:00 p.m.
