BOXSCORE
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Stony Brook's Chris Megaloudis netted the game-winner with just under 10 minutes to play as the Seawolves edged the Boston University men's soccer team, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at LaValle Stadium.
The Terriers picked up their first conference loss of the season to fall to 4-5-1 and 2-1-1, while the Seawolves improved to 8-2-1 overall and 2-1-1 in America East play.
Just over 11 minutes into the contest, a Stony Brook player sent the ball into the corner, forcing B.U. sophomore goalkeeper Chad Comroe (Dallas, Texas) to come out of the net and attempt to get the ball near the edge of the penalty area. Comroe dove on the ball and, in an effort to keep from sliding out of the box, lost control of the ball. The Seawolves' Anthony Barberio pounced on it, dribbled back towards the goal and fired a shot into the empty net to give SB a 1-0 advantage.
The Terriers pressured the Seawolves in the second half but SB goalkeeper Chris Moschella turned several Terrier shots aside, including when junior midfielder John Cooper (Greer, S.C.) fired a shot from the left side about 20 yards out, but Moschella dove to his left and tipped the ball just past the far post.
The Terriers finally broke through in the 77th minute off an indirect kick. Cooper served a bending cross from 30 yards out that Erik Evjen headed home to knot the game at 1-1.
Stony Brook took the lead for good less than four minutes later. Zach Norwood's corner kick sailed to the back side of the goal and onto the head of Mark Zajkowski. Zajkowski headed it back across the face of the goal and Chris Megaloudis headed it past Comroe for the game-winner.
The Terriers next play at the University of Connecticut on Tuesday, Oct. 12. Game time is 7 p.m.
