BOSTON - The Boston University women’s basketball team (2-0) takes on cross-town rival Northeastern University (0-2) on Tuesday at Matthews Arena. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. The Terriers have gotten off to a quick 2-0 on start on back-to-back wins at Rhode Island and UMKC. Junior Cheri Raffo leads the Terriers' offense with 16.5 ppg and senior Erica Kovach is the team’s leader in rebounds per game (12.0).
LAST TIME OUT
The Boston University women’s basketball team (2-0) defeated the University of Missouri-Kansas City (1-3), 68-66, in a thrilling come-from-behind win at UMKC’s Swinmey Recreation Center on Saturday afternoon. Katie Meinhardt, Cheri Raffo and Kristi Dini all scored in double digits and Erica Kovach brought down 13 boards to lead the Terriers to their second straight victory.
Raffo paced the offense with 17 points and Dini was 3-for-6 from behind the 3-point arc and dug in for 13 points. Meinhardt tallied 14 points and had a team-high four assists.
The Terriers went down by as many as 10 points, but fought their way back and with 6:24 remaining Kristen Folk hit a jumper that gave BU the lead for good. The Kangaroos held in and kept the score as close as one point, but the Terrier defense kept the UMKC offense at bay. With nine seconds left, UMKC came charging down the court and tried to hit a shot before the buzzer, but BU’s defense was able to keep the Kangaroos from scoring.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Northeastern is 0-2 on the young season, falling 102-49 to No. 6 Duke in the season-opener at the Blue Devil’s Cameron Indoor Stadium. Ashlee Feldman and Lucia Pablos scored in double digits with 17 and 11 points, respectively. The Huskies second game proved a much closer affair as Providence defeated Northeastern, 75-74. Feldman put up a shot at the buzzer but it hit the rim to give the Friars the win. Feldman finished with 15 points (4-for-12). Shaleyse Smallwood led the Huskies with 22 points and Jody Burrows (10 pts) also scored in double digits. Smallwood is 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
Feldman and Smallwood are currently averaging in double digits with 16.0 and 15.0 ppg, respectively.
The Huskies are in their second season in the Colonial Athletic Conference. In their inaugural season, Northeastern posted an 8-21 overall record and a 3-15 conference mark.
BU-NORTHEASTERN HISTORY
The Terriers complete their season-opening three-game road trip tonight with cross-town foe Northeastern. BU owns a 34-30 advantage over Northeastern in the all-time series record. The Terriers have won seven of the last eight meetings, including a 73-46 victory last season. Northeastern was a 26-year member of the America East, but in 2005-06 the Huskies joined the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).
In the last meeting, head coach Kelly Greenberg earned her 100th career victory as a head coach. Senior Rachael Vanderwal tallied 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists in the victory. BU outrebounded Northeaster, 52-33, while shooting .431 from the floor.
BU VS. THE CAA
The Terriers are 68-89 all-time against the CAA. While the Terriers are 34-30 all-time against Northeastern, they have only played them once since the Huskies joined the conference, a 73-46 win last season. Under head coach Kelly Greenberg, BU is 2-1 against the conference. Both wins came last season in back-to-back games against Northeastern and Delaware.

NEXT TIME OUT
The Terriers will play on their home court for the first time in 2006-07 when they host Canisius College on Sunday, Nov. 27 at 1 p.m.
BU and Canisius met for the first time last season in a 73-68 overtime BU victory. Katie Meinhardt and Erica Kovach combined for 46 points in the contest and Rachael Vanderwal grabbed 10 rebounds. Christine Kinneary led BU with six assists.
Meinhardt scored eight of BU’s 12 points in overtime.
