Lee, Erwin Named Women's Soccer Captains for 2006

May 9, 2006

Seniors Erica Lee and Lauren Erwin have been named co-captains for the 2006 Boston University women’s soccer season. Head coach Nancy Feldman, who will begin her 12th season at the helm of the Terrier program, announced the pair as captains as selected by both players and coaches. Erwin and Lee are two of four seniors on the women’s soccer team next season. The Terriers lost eight seniors off the 2005 team to graduation.

Lee, a native of Oakton, Va., started all 23 games at outside back last season. She helped contain the opposition’s attack down the flank and did well joining the attack from the back. She finished the year with one goal and two assists. Her only goal came in the America East Tournament championship game, a 2-1 victory over Maine. Lee was named honorable mention all-conference.

Erwin, a native of Orange, Conn., was third on the team with 10 points, including three goals and four assists. She was named first team all-America East and she registered two game-winning goals on the season.

“As a coaching staff, we are confident that Erica Lee and Lauren Erwin bring the kind of positive leadership that will be required for us to win a fifth America East Championship,” said Feldman, the five-time America East Coach of the Year.  “We have seen over the years how important strong player leadership is for the welfare and ultimate success of our team.”

“I cannot think of two players that do more by way of action then Lauren and Erica. The example they set for their teammates is of the highest level for preparation, work ethic and focus. We are in excellent hands with these two leaders. I know they have the respect of every one of their teammates and I have complete confidence that they will demonstrate to the younger players the ingredients necessary to go about winning another conference title.”

BU finished 14-5-4 in 2005 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in school history. The Terriers open their 2006 season on Fri., Aug. 25, at home against Boston College.
