March 1, 2007

BOSTON - After leading the Boston University men's ice hockey team to its third straight Beanpot title in addition to clinching home ice for the league quarterfinals, Hobey Baker candidate John Curry (Shorewood, Minn.) has been named Hockey East ITECH Goaltender of the Month, as annouced by the league office on Thursday.

Curry posted a .947 save percentage and a 1.63 goals against average during February. The senior was undefeated in his first seven starts in the month, helping the Terriers move back into the top five in the national rankings for the first time since October.

In the Beanpot, Curry set a tournament record with a .985 save percentage and made 37 saves in a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory over rival Boston College in the championship game. He will finish his career with a perfect 5-0 record in the Beanpot.

During a home-and-home series with league leader New Hampshire on Feb. 16-17, Curry made 31 saves in a 4-2 road victory over the Wildcats before making a career-high 43 saves the following night, as the Terriers rallied from a three-goal deficit to earn a 3-3 draw.

Curry and the Terriers will take the weekend off before returning to action on Thursday, March 8, in the quarterfinals of the Hockey East playoffs at Agganis Arena. BU's opponent in the best-of-three series has yet to be determined, but will be either Maine, Vermont, UMass or Northeastern.
