Box Score
ORONO, Maine -
Junior Shaun Taylor scored the lone goal in the eighth minute to lead the Boston University men's soccer team to its third straight win, a 1-0 victory over Maine on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field. The Terriers posted their third straight shutout to improve to 6-5-2 overall and 3-1-0 in the America East, while the Black Bears fell to 3-7-2 overall and 0-3-1 in the conference.
The only scoring in the game came early when freshman Stephen Knox sent a cross over to classmate Ben Berube on the right side. Berube passed back to Taylor on the left, who connected for the tip in, scoring what would stand up as his third game-winning goal of the season and seventh goal overall.
The BU defense held strong the rest of the way, not allowing a shot on goal in the first half before senior Hrafn Davidsson made two saves in the second half to notch his fourth shutout of the season. The Terriers have now played 311 minutes without allowing a goal dating back to an Oct. 4 loss to Albany.
Junior Nemanja Kostic stopped 11 shots at the other end for Maine as the Terriers held a 20-8 advantage in shots and a 12-2 lead in shots on goal.
The Terriers will next travel to Durham, N.H., to try for their fourth straight win on Saturday (Oct. 18) at 1 p.m. at New Hampshire. The team returns to Nickerson Field on Wednesday, Oct. 22, to host Vermont at 7 p.m.
