Non-Conference Schedule | Season Tickets
BOSTON - The Boston University women's basketball team and head coach Kelly Greenberg have announced their 2008-09 non-conference schedule, highlighted by November tournaments at a pair of Big Ten schools - Ohio State and Iowa - and four home contests at The Roof, including a match-up with Big East foe St. John's.
"We are very excited about this season's schedule," said Greenberg. "Opportunity is certainly knocking and we believe our players will be ready for all of the challenges that lie ahead with our non-conference opponents."
The schedule features three 2008 NCAA tournament teams (Iowa, Ohio State, Marist) and one 2008 WNIT participant (St. John's).
The Terriers will open the season at Rhode Island on Nov. 14 in Kingstown, R.I., looking for their third straight early-season win over the Rams. BU follows that up with its home opener against Siena six days later on Nov. 20.
After the contest against the Saints, BU will embark on a five-game road stretch, which begins with a tourney in Iowa City, Iowa, on Nov. 22-23. Iowa, the 2008 Big Ten regular-season champion, received votes in the last 2007-08 Associated Press poll and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. The Hawkeyes will be the Terriers' first opponent in the tourney, with Portland and Providence as potential second-day foes.
The next stop will be close to home when the Terriers make the short trek to Northeastern for a Nov. 25 showdown. BU completes the road stretch in Columbus, Ohio, on Nov. 29-30 in the Buckeye Classic. On the first day of the tournament, the Terriers will square off with the host Buckeyes, who finished in the AP Top 25 last year, before facing either Dayton or Central Michigan on Nov. 30.
The Terriers return to the confines of Case Gym when Ivy League foes Brown and Harvard come to Boston on Dec. 3 and 9, respectively.
BU will continue its non-conference slate on Dec. 13 at Marist, a school that advanced to the NCAA second round after winning its third straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championship, before hosting St. John's on Dec. 20. The Red Storm advanced to the 2008 WNIT quarterfinals with wins over Iona and Boston College.
The Terriers close out their non-conference slate at Atlantic 10 foe UMass on Jan. 2.
