NEWARK, Del. -
Paced by freshman Giovanna Monaco's first collegiate goal, the 14th-ranked Boston University field hockey team posted a 1-0 road victory over Delaware on Sunday afternoon at the Blue Hen Classic. Monaco scored in the 29th minute and the Terrier defense allowed just one shot on goal, helping the team improve to 2-1 on the year.
Monaco scored the game's lone goal with 6:53 left in the first half, as the freshman sent home a pass from sophomore Allie Dolce. The Terriers' six goals this season have been scored by six different players.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kim Kastuk and rest of the BU defense allowed the goal to hold up, as she stopped the lone shot on goal she faced to pick up her second shutout of the season.
BU outshot Delaware, 7-3, and held a 4-1 advantage in penalty corners.
The Terriers will return to action next weekend for a pair of home games, hosting No. 10 Michigan State on Saturday (Sept. 13) before welcoming cross-town rival Northeastern to Jack Barry Field on Sunday (Sept. 14). Both games will start at 1 p.m.
