PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The No. 10 women's ice hockey team finished its five-game road stretch on a high note, holding off Providence, 3-1, in its first conference contest of the season Saturday afternoon at Schneider Arena. The win puts the Terriers at 3-1-4 on the season and 1-0-0 in conference action while PC slips to 3-4-2 overall and 2-1-0 in conference.

The win also gives the Terriers their first ever point at Schneider, carrying an 0-6-0 record against the Friars at home into the game.

Pressure from the hosts persisted through the first period, but BU goalie Melissa Haber was up to the task, notching 10 saves to keep the score 0-0 through one.

The guests struck first just 2:27 into the second period as BU was able to capitalize on a strong offensive possession. Out of a skirmish in front of the net, Holly Lorms found Britt Hergesheimer at the top of the left faceoff circle and the rookie fired home her first goal as a Terrier for a 1-0 lead.

Penalties plagued BU through the first two periods and the Friars finally capitalized late in the second stanza. Lauren Covell collected a pass in front of the BU net and slid it to Ashley Cottrell who flipped it past Haber for the equalizer.

At the tail end of a BU power-play in the third, the Terriers took a 2-1 lead thanks to some head-up play by their top line. Jillian Kirchner wrestled a puck away from a Providence defender which was scooped up by Jenelle Kohanchuk behind the net and stuffed past Providence goalie Genevieve Lacasse for her seventh goal of the season. With the goal, Kohanchuk extended her point-streak to four games.

Kohanchuk netted her second goal of the game on an empty-net opportunity to seal the 3-1 win.

After a five-game road stretch, BU returns to the friendly confines of Walter Brown Arena as it welcomes conference rival Boston College for a 7 p.m., matchup on Monday, Nov. 1.
