LEXINGTON, Ky. - In the nation's first women's basketball game of the 2009-10 season, Boston University (0-1) fell to Kentucky (1-0), 92-58, at Memorial Coliseum in a Friday morning match-up. Freshmen Kristen Sims and Caitlynn Moran had impressive collegiate debuts in the scarlet and white with 17 and 10 points, respectively.

Moran and Sims' double-digit debut is the first time since 2004-05 that two BU rookies began their careers in double-figures. Five years ago, Cheri Raffo and Corinne Jean debuted with 10 and 14 points, respectively.

Moran was three boards short of a double-double as she finished the game with 10 points and seven rebounds and shot 50 percent from the field. In addition to her team-high 17 points, Sims brought down five rebounds, dished out one assist and collected one steal. Also reaching double-figures was sophomore Caroline Stewart who poured in 14 points on 4-for-7 shooting and 6-for-9 free-throw shooting to go along with seven boards. Rookie Chantell Alford also came out strong with nine points and seven rebounds.

As a team, BU shot 31.5 percent from the field and its inside game accounted for 18 points.

The hosts dashed out to a 12-2 lead with five minutes gone in the first on the strength of six Victoria Dunlap points. Chantell Alford drained a 3-pointer at 14:41 to jump-start the Terriers' offense, sparking a 10-0 run in which Sims had the final seven points, capped with a trey at 13:47.

A ten-point run by the Wildcats set the tone for the rest of the half as BU played catch-up through the back end of the opening stanza. Two big threes by Kentucky, including a Rebecca Gray shot to close the scoring for Kentucky for the half, pushed the Wildcats out to a 41-26 lead, their largest of the contest. Caroline Stewart netted a lay-up for BU with 23 seconds on the clock to bring the score to 41-28 at the half.

Kentucky's Carly Morrow came out hot to start the second half, draining a pair of threes and a mid-range jumper to push the Wildcats lead to 55-34 five minutes in. Moran converted a three-point play and netted the first six points of the half to keep BU within striking distance.

A Sims 3-pointer at 13:54 brought the score to 39-55 but UK's Dunlap continued to be a presence in the paint, netting two lay-ups for a 62-41 lead at 10:53. The Wildcats kept up the pressure through the final 10 minutes, sealing the 92-58 win.

The Terriers are back in action on Sunday, Nov. 15 as they travel to Amherst, Mass., to take on Massachusetts in a 2 p.m. game.
