BOSTON - Junior Brian Strait and sophomore Kevin Shattenkirk will serve as co-captains for the 2009-10 Boston University men's ice hockey team, as announced at the program's annual banquet on Saturday evening at George Sherman Union.

The two defensemen are both former captains for the U.S. Under-18 Team. This past year, Strait served as an assistant captain for the national champion Terriers in and Shattenkirk filled the role of alternate captain for Team USA at the World Junior Championship during the middle of BU's season.

A veteran of 111 contests, Strait has been the team's steadiest defensive defenseman over the past two years and has 23 career points on five goals and 18 assists.

Shattenkirk is coming off an All-America sophomore campaign during which he tallied 28 points (7g, 21a). He earned second-team Hockey East All-Star honors and was later named to the Reebok All-America Second Team.
