COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
Coming off one of the most impressive seasons by a forward in Boston University hockey history, sophomore Colin Wilson has been named the 2009 USA Hockey College Player of the Year. Wilson scored a team-high 55 points during the 2008-09 campaign to help the Terriers claim their fifth national title in program history.
Wilson, who was a Hobey Baker Hat Trick Finalist and a Reebok First Team All-American, ranked second in the nation in both points (55) and assists (38) while adding 17 goals. He was also named national player of the year by Inside College Hockey.
For the second consecutive season, Wilson played for Team USA at the World Junior Championship and was the lone collegiate player selected to the U.S. National Team that recently advanced to the semifinals at the World Championship in Switzerland.
Wilson, who was drafted by Nashville with the seventh overall pick of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, will forego his final two years of collegiate eligibility to sign with the Predators. He finishes his BU career with 90 points (29g, 61a) in just 80 games.
USA Hockey will present its player of the year awards on Wednesday, June 3, in Colorado Springs at an awards dinner tabbed "A Night of Tribute." The event will be staged in the Crowne Plaza's Grand Ballroom beginning at 7 p.m. MDT.
