WAKEFIELD, Mass. -
Headlined by freshman Ryan Ruikka's selection to the Hockey East Academic All-Star Team, four members of the Boston University men's ice hockey team were named to the league's 2008-09 All-Academic Team. Ruikka was joined by seniors John McCarthy and Jason Lawrence and sophomore Joe Pereira.
Each student-athlete must earn a grade-point average of 3.0 or better in each of the two academic periods during which he was actively competing. Ruikka's GPA of 3.88 was the second highest amongst league defensemen, earning him a spot on the six-member All-Star Team.
McCarthy earned All-Academic honors for the third consecutive season, while Lawrence and Pereira were first-time honorees.
