Quinn Video Interview on LakeErieMonsters.com
BOSTON - David Quinn, who has served as the associate head coach for the Boston University men's ice hockey team for the last five seasons, has accepted an offer to become the head coach of the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey Leauge. Lake Erie is the AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche of the National Hockey League.
Quinn, who graduated from BU in 1989, replaces another former Terrier, as Joe Sacco was named head coach of the Avalanche earlier this month after filling the head post at Lake Erie for the past two seasons.
"While we're disappointed to lose David, this is a great opportunity and a great move for him in his coaching career," said BU head coach Jack Parker. "He's now in a position to go on either track - pro or college - and will be working for a great organization."
"I'm very grateful to have had the opportunity at BU to work with Coach Parker and coach elite players. That certainly allowed me to have this great opportunity," said Quinn, who was introduced to the Cleveland media on Monday. "At this point in my career, head coaching experience is vital, and this felt like a great move for me both professionally and personally. It's sad, but exciting at the same time."
In his five seasons as associate head coach, Quinn helped the Terriers bring in some of the nation's top recruiting classes, which was instrumental in the success of last year's talented squad that went 35-6-4 and captured the school's fifth NCAA title.
"David is a proven winner who has successfully coached young players throughout their careers," said Avalanche general manager Greg Sherman. "He played a significant role in the success of Boston University's program, and has the necessary experience to lead our young prospects in Cleveland."
