Last year, the Terriers finished 15th in the Ten Eyck Award (team championship) standings with 45 points after they took ninth in the 2V8 and 16th in the V8 races, respectively. This time around under first-year head coach Thomas Bohrer, BU took seventh overall with 125 points, an 80-point improvement.

The V8 boat reached the Grand Final for the first time since 2005 and just the third time since 1990 by overtaking Wisconsin with a furious last-minute surge in the semifinals, while the 2V8 squad tied the highest finish ever by a varsity eight boat (1981) with a fourth-place result.

Their performances marked the first time ever that both V8 boats reached the Grand Final in the same year at the IRAs.
