BOSTON - 17th-ranked Boston College scored in the 67th minute and stopped three shots to defeat the Boston University men's soccer team, 1-0, on Tuesday night at Nickerson Field. With their first loss against an in-state opponent after beating Harvard, Holy Cross and UMass, the Terriers drop to 7-7, while the Eagles improve to 10-4.

BC broke the scoreless deadlock when Charlie Rugg found Kyle Bekker on the left side of the box, setting up a rocket to the lower right corner for what would be the game winner. Justin Luthy recorded all three saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season, while BU's America East Player of the Game Nick Thomson stopped five attempts in the loss.

Though the Eagles played a meticulous style and possessed the ball for long stretches of time, the Terriers had their opportunities to score. In the 17th minute, senior Ben Berube drove the ball up the left side and sent a low cross to Cameron Souri, but his first touch lifted the ball too high over the goal.

In the 65th minute before BC's goal, Berube again brought the ball up the left side and sent a cross into the box. The ball deflected to the top where sophomore Derek McCaffrey was waiting to collect it. He gathered the ball and quickly rifled it toward the goal, but an Eagle was in the way to deflect it.

He had another opportunity to score but from several yards out, his header sent the ball well left in the 88th minute, as the Terriers were only able to get two shots off after facing a 1-0 deficit.

The Eagles ended the game with a 19-11 advantage in shots and 5-1 edge in corners. Kevin Mejia led BC with six attempts, while both Berube and freshman Dominique Badji had three apiece for the Terriers.

After playing their final non-conference game of the regular season, BU will continue the conference slate with a visit to Albany on Saturday (Oct. 22). Action is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
