Looking to pick up a key non-conference victory late in the season, the No. 16 Boston University field hockey team (8-6) will visit No. 4 Connecticut (13-1) on Wednesday at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
The Terriers, who will be facing a top-10 team for the seventh time this season, are coming off a tough 4-3 overtime loss to then-No. 8 New Hampshire.
The Huskies have put together win streaks of six and seven games this season and will be attempting to build on the latter. On Sunday, UConn earned a 3-1 victory over Princeton.
UConn has three players with 25 points or more this season. Freshman Chloe Hunnable has had a strong rookie campaign with 28 points on the strength of 12 goals. Sophomore Maria Elena Bolles has also tallied 28 points (8g, 12a) while senior Jestine Angelini has posted 25 (7g, 11a).
Sophomore Sarah Mansfield has played every minute in goal for the Huskies this season and boasts a .786 save percentage and a 0.85 goal-against average, which ranks fourth in the nation.
BU has had 16 different players record at least one point this season. Junior Macey Gaumond has a team-best 17 on eight goals and an assist while classmates Tabi Hatch (5g, 3a) and Jacinda McLeod (5g, 2a) have contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Freshman goalkeeper Valentina Cerda ranks seventh in the country in save percentage at .803 and ninth in goals-against average (1.22).
UConn holds a 24-8 advantage in the 32 all-time meetings between the New England rivals. The Terriers last defeated the Huskies back in 2008 and five of UConn's last eight wins against BU have come by a single goal.
