LOWELL, Mass. - Despite scoring a goal just 16 seconds after the opening faceoff, the No. 12 Boston University men's ice hockey team suffered a 7-1 loss at the hands of UMass Lowell on Saturday evening at Tsongas Center. The Terriers fall to 3-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in Hockey East play.

Senior Corey Trivino scored on a redirect on the game's opening shift, but it was all River Hawks after that, as the end result was the Terriers' most lopsided loss since an 8-2 road defeat against Providence on March 12, 1999, in the opening game of the Hockey East quarterfinals.

The River Hawks (3-3-0, 1-2-1 HE) got a two-goal effort from sophomore Derek Arnold and freshman Scott Wilson tallied a game-high three points with a goal and two assists.

Sophomore Adam Clendening's shot from the right point was tipped in by Trivino for BU's lone tally. Freshman Evan Rodrigues also assisted on the play.

An eight-game goal-scoring streak - the longest by a Terrier in 11 seasons - came to an end for sophomore Matt Nieto.

UMass Lowell outshot BU, 44-16, and went 2-of-10 on the power play. The Terriers came up empty on their six power-play opportunities.

Senior goaltender Kieran Millan stopped 24 of the 30 shots he faced in two periods of play before he was relieved by classmate Grant Rollheiser who allowed one goal on 14 shots. The River Hawks got a 15-save performance from sophomore Doug Carr.

After opening the scoring, the Terriers held the lead for 4:27 until sophomore Joseph Pendenza tied the game with a goal from the right slot.

Under a minute later with his team skating on the power play, Arnold scored the first of his two goals to give the home team the lead for good.

The River Hawks were not content with their 2-1 lead entering the second and quickly tacked on two more tallies just 11 seconds apart in the second minute of the middle stanza to jump out to a 4-1 advantage.

UMass Lowell had the game in hand by the second intermission, as it gained a five-goal cushion at 6-1 with two more markers, the latter coming with 7.5 seconds left in the second.

The lone goal of the third came at the 3:46 mark when Arnold found the back of the net again to create the 7-1 final.

BU will return to action on Friday (Nov. 11) when it plays host to No. 7 Merrimack. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
