ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Seven different Terriers found the back of the cage on Friday afternoon as the No. 14 Boston University field hockey team turned in an impressive 8-0 victory against Ball State at Ocker Field on the University of Michigan campus.

BU (4-2) took a 1-0 lead into halftime before erupting for seven goals in the latter half to finish off the decisive victory. Junior Macey Gaumond tallied two goals 29 seconds apart in the 54th minute and classmate Nicole van Oosterom posted a goal and two assists. Senior Rachael White registered a tally and an assist while four others scored a goal each in the rout.

Freshman Valentina Cerda and senior Julie Collins combined for the shutout as the BU defense did not allow the Cardinals to record a shot on goal.

The offensive output was the most by the Terriers since an 8-3 win at Dartmouth on Sept. 16, 2007, and it was the most decisive BU victory since a 9-0 home decision over UMBC on Oct. 7, 2006.

Junior Jacinda McLeod scored the lone goal of the first half to provide all the scoring the Terriers would need, as she converted from the top of the circle at 14:36 off a corner with assists from van Oosterom and White.

Senior Andrea Greene made it a 2-0 contest just 15 seconds into the second half when she knocked home a rebound for her second goal of the year. Just over two minutes later, van Oosterom found the boards for her first tally of the season.

In the 47th minute, junior Tabi Hatch found classmate Leslie Zules in the middle of the circle for a shot that beat Ball State goalkeeper Haley Fusting in the right corner of the cage.

Gaumond then pushed the lead to 6-0 when she secured her second two-goal effort of the season. Sophomore Kat Spring sent a pass to Gaumond from outside the circle that the junior deflected in at 53:12. Moments later, Gaumond converted from deep in the circle for her team-leading sixth goal of the year.

White tipped in a pass from van Oosterom at 55:09 and sophomore Anne Fruitema capped the scoring barrage at the 58:11 mark. Both players scored their second goal of the season.

The Terriers outshot Ball State, 25-1, and did not give up a penalty corner while earning nine on the offensive end. Fusting made seven saves in goal for Ball State.

BU will return to action on Sunday (Sept. 18) when they face No. 13 Michigan at 1 p.m.
