PROVIDENCE, R.I. - After scoring in the first half, No. 22 Brown withstood five corner kicks from the Boston University men's soccer team in the second and added a goal with two minutes remaining to pull out a 2-0 victory on Friday night at Stevenson Field. Earning its fourth shutout of the season, the Bears improve to 5-2, while the Terriers drop to 2-5.

Competing in a steady downpour, Brown entered the contest seeking its first home win against BU since 2005. Alex Markes put the Bears on the board at 33:17 with a header off a free kick from Austin Mandel, and Sean Rosa added the insurance score at 87:58 with assistance from Evan Coleman.

The Bears' Sam Kernan-Schloss stopped four shots in the shutout win, while freshman Nick Thomson posted four saves, including a stellar save to his right on a penalty kick by Jay Hayward at 82:17.

Thomson's save kept BU alive late in the game, and senior captain Stephen Knox tried to get the equalizer but was just wide of the net four minutes later. Knox led the Terriers with three shots, including two on goal.

Sophomores Anthony Ciccone and Derek McCaffrey contributed the other two shots on goal, as Brown finished with a 13-8 advantage in attempts. The Terriers led in corners, 6-4, but committed 18 fouls against the Bears' 11.

Continuing a four-game road trip, the Terriers will next visit crosstown rival Harvard on Wednesday (Sept. 28) with action set to begin at 7 p.m.
