UMBC enters Wednesday’s game with an 11-9 overall record and a 5-2 mark in conference play, which ranks the Retrievers third in the America East. UMBC, last year’s America East regular season champions, has won four of its last five games, including a 67-58 victory at Vermont on Sunday afternoon. Phil Stern is in his 10th season leading UMBC after being named the 2011 America East Coach of the Year.

Senior guard Erin Brown leads the Retrievers, and the America East, with 15.5 points per game. She is also the team leader with 6.8 rebounds per game. Fellow senior Michelle Kurowski is second on the team with 12.3 points per game while junior guard Kristin Coles ranks third in points per game (8.3) and second in rebounds per game (6.7). As a team, the Retrievers average 58.8 points per game and are shooting 37.7 percent from the field.

The history between the two schools is young with BU leading the all-time series, 13-6. Last year, the teams split the regular-season series with BU winning at home, 65-39, on Jan. 17, 2011, before falling at UMBC, 62-52, on Feb. 17, 2011.

The Terriers will have a week off before they host Vermont on Wednesday, Feb. 1. It will be the Terriers only game played at Agganis Arena this season. The game is part of a double-header with the BU men’s team and is slated to begin at 5 p.m. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN3.
