BOSTON - Continuing a three-game homestand, the Boston University men's soccer team scored a goal in each half and only needed two saves from sophomore Nick Thomson to shut out Albany, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

Dominating possession with an 18-3 advantage in shot attempts, the Terriers (5-7-4, 2-1-2 AE) snapped the Great Danes' three-game winning streak with Albany falling to 5-10-0 and 2-3-0 in league play.

The Terriers came out attacking quickly with sophomore Dominique Badji putting Albany's keeper Tim Allen under pressure in the third minute. Allen's first of four saves led to BU's first corner kick. BU had back-to-back opportunities but could not get a quality look at net.

Albany had a chance at 11:43 when Brandon Wilson received a cross from 12 yards inside the middle of the box during a counter attack. He one timed the ball at the middle of the net, but Thomson was in perfect position for the save.

Two minutes after Allen stopped his first header, sophomore Parker Powell put BU on the board first at 12:25 when he headed in a cross from junior Anthony Ciccone. With the score, he posted his team-leading fifth goal of the season and his first career game winner, while Ciccone tallied his seventh assist of the year.

BU went into the locker room with a 1-0 lead and 7-2 edge in shot attempts. The Terriers continued to be on the offensive in the second half with Powell hitting the post in just the second minute of action.

They earned an insurance goal at 70:28 when redshirt freshman Mac McGuire finished off a short pass from freshman Carlos Ruiz. Also earning an assist on the play, sophomore Cameron Souri fed Ruiz, who was on the right side near the goal line. Ruiz played the ball back to the middle of the box to McGuire, who tallied his fourth goal of the season.

Tim Allen recorded four saves for the Great Danes, as the Terriers finished with a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. Thomson's two saves helped BU earn its fifth shutout of the year and claim its fourth straight victory against Albany.

The Terriers will return to action on Wednesday (Oct. 24) against Binghamton with action slated to begin at 7 p.m. in the final home game of the season. Before the start, BU will recognize seniors Michael Bustamante and Max White.
