CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Boston University swimming and diving team swept the America East weekly swimming and diving honors after both the men and women defeated Fordham last Saturday.
Sophomore Mario Caballero and junior Kendra Cheng have been named Male and Female Swimmer of the Week, respectively, while junior Jared Scheck and senior Melinda Matyas were honored as Male and Female Diver of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Caballero dominated Fordham in the breaststroke events by winning the 100m race with a time of 57.89. The Barcelona, Spain, native also claimed victory in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:09.54 in addition to swimming a leg of the winning 200 medley relay.
Scheck earned his first two victories of the 2012 season with a pair of first-place showings in the diving events. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native scored 286.27 on the 1m board and amassed 292.12 points on the 3m board to lead BU to victory.
Cheng led the BU women with three individual victories against the Rams. Her first-place time in the 100 freestyle (52.36) was the fastest in the conference so far this season while she also turned in the winning times in the 200 free (1:53.42) and the 200 IM (2:07.50).
Matyas, the reigning America East Diving Champion, posted her second straight sweep of the diving events at Fordham. The Budapest, Hungary, native scored 293.32 from the 1m board and 301.72 from the 3m board.
The Terriers return to the pool on Friday (Nov. 9) when they host Brown at the Competition Pool. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
