CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After being named Most Valuable Player of the Christmas City Classic, senior Mo Moran of the Boston University women’s basketball team was named America East Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Moran led the Terriers to the Christmas City Classic title this past weekend with a 68-42 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, Dec. 29, followed by a 72-44 triumph over Lehigh in the title game on Sunday, Dec. 30. It was the first in-season tournament title for BU since the Terriers won the 2001 Christmas City Classic.
The point guard averaged 14.0 points per game for BU in addition to 8.0 assists and 2.0 steals. She also chipped in 3.0 rebounds per game and 1.5 blocks per game.
Moran nearly notched a double-double against Fairleigh Dickinson with 12 points and a team-high nine assists before she led the Terriers with 16 points and seven assists against Lehigh. She connected on a career-high four 3-pointers against the Mountain Hawks en route to being named the tournament’s MVP.
The Hopewell Junction, N.Y., native ranks sixth in the nation with 7.2 assists per game and her 2.76 assist to turnover ratio is 11th in all of Division I.
Moran and the Terriers (10-3) are off to their best start under ninth-year head coach Kelly Greenberg and begin the America East portion of their schedule on Wednesday night with a trip to Stony Brook. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
