BOSTON – Unbeaten in its last six games, the Boston University women’s soccer team returns to Nickerson Field to host Loyola Maryland on Saturday (Oct. 19). The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
During halftime of Saturday’s game, the Terriers will honor members of the 1995 team, which was the first year that BU fielded a varsity program. BU finished 10-3-2 in its inaugural campaign under the direction of head coach Nancy Feldman, who is in her 19th season leading the Terriers.
BU (9-3-3, 4-1-0 Patriot League) and Loyola (1-9-3, 0-4-1, PL) will meet for the second time in program history and first time as conference foes, as both schools joined the Patriot League on July 1, 2013. In their only previous meeting, BU defeated Loyola, 3-0, on Aug. 27, 2011, at Nickerson Field. Current junior Taylor Krebs accounted for the game-winning goal in the game which marked Feldman’s 300th career victory.
With a 6-0-2 record at Nickerson Field, BU looks to remain unbeaten on its home turf. The Terriers have allowed just one goal at Nickerson Field this year and own a 12-game unbeaten streak at home dating back to last season. The Terriers have not lost at Nickerson Field since a 1-0 defeat to Massachusetts on Sept. 14, 2012.
BU closed out its non-conference slate with a 1-1 draw at Dartmouth on Wednesday night. Freshman Erica Kosienski scored her fourth goal of the season with an assist from Jamie Turchi for BU to earn its third draw of the year, after also battling No. 11 South Carolina (0-0) and Harvard (1-1) through two overtime periods.
Kosienski ranks second on the team with nine points (4g, 1a) while senior Madison Clemens leads BU with 10 points off of five goals. Classmate Megan McGoldrick has three goals and one assist for seven points while Turchi has two goals and a pair of assists for six points. Seven other Terriers have at least one point this season.
The BU backline of seniors Amanda Rumsey, Erin Mullen, junior Kai Miller and sophomore McKenzie Hollenbaugh have played outstanding defense in front of the Terriers’ net. BU allows 7.0 shots per game and has outscored opponents 19-7 this season, including 12-1 at home.
Senior goalkeeper Andrea Green has started all but one game in net for BU and boasts a 0.38 goals against average with a .868 save percentage. She has been a part of eight shutouts this season.
Loyola arrives in Boston in search of its first Patriot League victory. The Greyhounds’ only win of the year occurred in their season opener, a 2-1 triumph at Towson on Aug. 23. Most recently, Loyola fell at Lehigh, 2-1, last Saturday.
The Greyhounds have been shut out in six games this season and have eight goals on the year. The team allows 1.62 goals per contest and gives up an average of 14.6 shots per game. Offensively, Loyola averages 9.7 shots per contest and 0.62 goals per game.
Sophomore Charlotte Miller leads the Greyhounds with three goals and one assist for seven points this season while freshman Nicole Wahlig is second on the team with a pair of goals. Three other Greyhounds each have a goal on the season while senior Melissa Lookingland leads the team with a pair of assists.
Senior Didi Haracic has played the majority of the minutes in net for Loyola and has allowed 1.60 goals per game while saving .779 percent of the shots she has faced.
BU will continue with Patriot League play on Wednesday (Oct. 23) when the Terriers travel to Hamilton, N.Y., to face Colgate. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
