CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -
Three members of the Boston University field hockey team were honored with weekly Patriot League honors for their efforts in the Terriers' 2-0 home victory over Lafayette in the regular-season finale on Saturday.
Senior Ysi Schieb was named Defensive Player of the Week, junior Valentina Cerda Eimbcke was tabbed Goalkeeper of the Week and freshman Sara Martineau received Rookie of the Week accolades.
The Terriers' win over the Leopards allowed them to finish their first Patriot League slate with a 5-1 record, clinching sole possession of second place in the conference standings.
Schieb anchored the defense in the 2-0 shutout and added a key defensive save in the first half to keep the Leopards off the board. This is the third time this season that Schieb has been named Defensive Player of the Week.
Earning Goalkeeper of the Week honors for the fourth time this fall, Cerda Eimbcke stopped all seven shots she faced to register her fifth shutout of the year. The five shutouts lead the Patriot League, and she also tops the League in goals against average (1.30) heading into the postseason.
Martineau becomes the fourth different Terrier to be named Patriot League Rookie of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal in the triumph over Lafayette. She opened the scoring in the 26th minute when she pushed a rebound underneath the goalkeeper. Both of Martineau's goals this season have been game-winners.
The Terriers will face third-seeded Bucknell in the Patriot League semifinals on Friday (Nov. 8) at 2 p.m. at American. The winner of that match faces the winner of the American-Lafayette in Saturday's championship.
