NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Honorees
BOSTON – Four members of the Boston University women’s soccer team have earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Region honors, as announced by the organization on Wednesday.
BU and fellow Patriot League member Navy led all schools with four All-Mid-Atlantic Region honorees each. Seniors Emma Clark (First Team) and Kylie Strom (Second Team) earned All-Region accolades for the second time in their careers while sophomore McKenzie Hollenbaugh (Second Team) and freshman Erica Kosienski (Third Team) received their first All-Region honors.
In her 19 seasons as the head coach, NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Coach of the Year Nancy Feldman has now guided 33 Terriers to All-Region accolades with 12 players receiving the honor multiple times during their careers. Feldman led the Terriers to the second round of the NCAA tournament after BU captured its first Patriot League Championship. BU finished the season with a 15-4-4 record and was ranked No. 25 in the final regular-season poll.
After earning a spot on the All-Northeast Region Second Team last season, Clark received All-Mid-Atlantic First Team accolades following BU’s inaugural season in the Patriot League. The All-League First Team honoree started all 23 games at midfield for the Terriers and posted four points (1g, 2a) on the season. Defensively, the tri-captain helped the Terriers record a program-record 16 shutouts while tying the Terriers’ all-time mark for fewest goals allowed with nine.
Strom, who was an All-Northeast Region Second Team selection in 2011, was named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Second Team following her senior season. The tri-captain started all 23 games at midfield and finished the season with seven points off a pair of goals and three assists while being named to the Patriot League All-League Second Team. Strom dished out the assist for BU’s game-winning goal against Harvard in the first round of the NCAA tournament to send the Terriers to the second round for the second time in school history.
Joining Strom on the second team is Hollenbaugh, who earned her first All-Region honor after a standout sophomore season. The defender started all 23 games at center back for BU and played a vital role in the Terriers’ defensive success this season. Hollenbaugh and the BU defense limited opponents to 0.39 goals per game, which was one of the top marks in all of Division I. The All-Patriot League Second Team honoree anchored the Terriers’ backline that allowed only 6.4 shots per game.
Kosienski, the Patriot League Rookie of the Year, was placed on the All-Region Third Team following her phenomenal freshman campaign. The speedy forward came off the bench in all 23 games to lead BU with 18 points (8g, 2a) while recording seven game-winning goals. The All-League Second Team honoree provided the game-winning tally in the Patriot League Championship game and then propelled BU to its victory in the first round of the NCAA tournament when she found the back of the net to break the scoreless affair in the second half.
