Freshman Danny O'Regan of the Boston University men's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Rookie of the Month for the second time this season on Thursday, as announced by the league office. Earlier in the week, the centerman was selected to the College Hockey News All-Rookie Team.
In March, O'Regan notched 11 points (4g, 7a), including three game-winning goals, in in eight games to lead all Hockey East rookies. He was named to the Hockey East Tournament Team after posting four points (2g, 2a) in four tournament games. The freshman notched at least one point in the first seven games in March and registered three multi-point efforts for the Terriers.
O'Regan had a standout rookie season, becoming the first BU freshman since Tony Amonte in 1990 to lead the team in scoring. He posted a team-best 38 points on 16 goals and 22 assists and his team-high eight power-play goals was also the most by a BU rookie since Amonte potted 11. A Hockey East All-Rookie Team selection, O'Regan led all league rookies in scoring during league play with 27 points (9g, 18a).
Hockey East had three representatives on the CHN All-Rookie Team, as O'Regan was joined by Mike Matheson (Boston College) and Jon Gillies (Providence).
