Former Boston University captain and All-American Kevin Shattenkirk has been named to the 2014 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team, as announced on Wednesday after the NHL Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium.

Shattenkirk will become the 31st BU men's hockey player to participate in the Olympics when he joins Team USA in Sochi, Russia, next month. He'll be representing the U.S for the fourth time in his career, having played in the 2007 U18 World Championships, the 2009 World Juniors and the 2011 World Championships.

The St. Louis Blues defenseman is in his fourth year in the NHL and has totaled 137 points (29g, 108a) over 239 career games. He is fifth amongst all NHL blueliners this season in points with 28 (6g, 22a).

Shattenkirk captained the 2009-10 BU squad as a junior before beginning his NHL career with the Colorado Avalanche. As a sophomore, he was named to the AHCA Reebok All-America Second Team after helping the Terriers claim their fifth NCAA title.

In 121 collegiate games, Shattenkirk amassed 78 points in a BU uniform on 18 goals and 60 assists.
