HANOVER, N.H. - Ranked 22nd in the latest NSCAA poll, the Boston University men's soccer team scored three first-half goals and used six saves from senior Nick Thomson to claim a 3-1 victory at Dartmouth. With their highest goal total of the season, the Terriers (9-2-1) extend their unbeaten streak to eight games.

The Ivy League leading Big Green (7-3-1) entered the contest on an eight-game unbeaten streak with a No. 19 ranking by Top Drawer Soccer and No. 24 ranking by Soccer America. The Terriers stunned Dartmouth though and the crowd with two goals in the first 10 minutes en route to the hard-fought road victory.

In the fifth minute, senior Dominique Badji was tripped up trying to rush into the box with the ball, setting up a free kick by classmate Jordan Barker. There was a scrum near the net, and after a few seconds, junior Jeroen Blugh found sophomore Felix De Bona for the score.

Five minutes later, BU extended the lead to a pair of goals when freshman Bjarki Benediktsson sent a cross from the left side for freshman David Amirani to finish. The Terriers were in control with the 2-0 lead but then found themselves on the defensive at 27:11.

With players from both sides battling for position in the Dartmouth box before a BU free kick, reigning Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week Kelvin Madzongwe was called with a foul and received a direct red card. As a result, the Terriers were down a man with approximately 63 minutes to play in regulation.

Averaging 2.6 goals during its unbeaten streak, Dartmouth dominated possession for the rest of the contest with the extra-man advantage but committed a costly turnover with one minute left in the first half. The Big Green played a fast ball back to keeper James Hickock who was out of position at the top of the box. Senior Parker Powell noticed the miscue and beat the keeper to the ball for the tap-in and 3-0 lead.

Still a man up at home, Dartmouth continued to pressure in the second half and finally got on the board in the 63rd minute when Ricard Gomez scored past a diving Thomson following a corner kick.

The Big Green out-shot BU, 10-1, in the second half and finished with a 3-1 advantage in corners, but Thomson had four terrific saves in the final 45 minutes of regulation to preserve the victory.

Following the conclusion of a three-game road trip, the Terriers will return to Nickerson Field and resume Patriot League play against Lafayette on Saturday (Oct. 18) at 2 p.m.
