Inside BU Hockey - Episode 2
BOSTON - The Boston University men's ice hockey team will play its first of two games against USA Hockey squads this season on Saturday (Oct. 19) when it hosts the U.S. National Under-18 Team at Agganis Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Three freshmen on this year's BU team (Jack Eichel, Brandon Fortunato, John MacLeod) helped the U.S. win the goal medal at last season's U18 World Championships. Current Terriers Matt Grzelcyk, Matt Lane and Nikolas Olsson are also U.S. National U-18 Team alumni.
In all, 26 current and former BU players were part of the U.S. National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Terriers are 4-0-1 all-time against the U.S. National Under-18 Team with the only blemish being a 3-3 draw in the last meeting, which took place midway through the 2011-12 season. Olsson scored the game-tying goal for the U.S. in that contest.
In its season opener last Friday, the Terriers broke open a 2-1 game with a six-goal third period in an 8-1 road triumph against Massachusetts.
Freshman Jack Eichel and junior Danny O'Regan combined for seven points (4g, 3a) to help BU win its opener for the fifth straight season. Freshman goaltender Connor LaCouvee made his collegiate debut and got the win with a 31-save performance.
The Terriers' early-season results have not gone unnoticed, as they moved up to No. 13 in this week's USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll and jumped six spots to No. 14 in the USCHO.com poll.
The U.S. National Under-18 Team is 8-2-1 so far this season and is coming off a 3-3 draw at Providence on Thursday.
