Box Score AMHERST, Mass. - Playing in its final non-conference road game of the season, the Boston University field hockey team fell, 2-1, in overtime to Massachusetts on Sunday afternoon at Garber Field.

The Terriers held advantages in shots (14-11) and corners (8-5) but lost for just the second time in their past six games to move to 8-7 on the season. The Minutewomen improved to an even 8-8.

Sophomore Amanda Cassera tied the game when she scored on a penalty stroke in the 44th minute to raise her team-leading goal total to eight.

UMass successfully converted the first and only corner of overtime. Lauren Allymohamed was alone above the right post to redirect an offering from Melanie Kreusch at the 81:32 mark.

Kreusch opened the scoring on the Minutewomen's first corner of the contest, as the freshman found the boards from the top of the circle. It was UMass' only shot on goal and only corner of the opening half.

Senior goalkeeper Valentina Cerda Eimbcke made five saves, including stops on all four shots she faced in the second half. For UMass, Sam Carlino turned in a four-save performance.

After allowing the early goal to the Minutewomen, BU had the better of the play for the remainder of the first half, but was unable to get an equalizer before halftime.

The Minutewomen came out of halftime strong, forcing Cerda Eimbcke to make a tough save on a redirect.

The Terriers, however, quickly got back to threatening in the UMass end, drawing back-to-back corners. Despite coming up empty on the corners, BU got back into the circle and drew a penalty stroke.

Cassera calmly roofed the ball to the top of the net on the try to make it a 1-1 contest at the 43:37 mark.

Cerda Eimbcke kept it a tie game with a pair of incredible saves - one off her pads and one off her blocker - off a UMass corner with just under 20 minutes left in regulation.

BU's best chance at a go-ahead goal came minutes later when it earned three straight corners, but Carlino and the UMass defense was up to the task.

The Terriers will return to action on Friday (Oct. 24) when they visit American for a Patriot League contest. Game time is set for 3 p.m. Both teams have clinched a spot in the conference tournament and the winner of Friday's contest will take a big step towards securing one of the top two seeds.
