SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Despite a 38-save performance from sophomore Sean Maguire, the Boston University men's ice hockey team suffered its second 2-0 loss to No. 15 Notre Dame in as many nights on Saturday at the Compton Family Ice Arena.

It marked the first time in over 72 years that the Terriers have been shut out in back-to-back games. BU was blanked in visits to Yale (Dec. 10) and Princeton (Dec. 13) during the 1941-42 season.

The Terriers fall to 8-20-4 overall and 3-12-3 in Hockey East play. Notre Dame improves to 19-12-2 with an 8-9-2 conference mark.

The Irish broke a scoreless deadlock on a power-play goal from senior Jeff Costello just 19 seconds into the third period. Junior Austin Wuthrich tacked on his second goal of the weekend with 2:31 to play to account for the 2-0 final.

Senior goaltender Steven Summerhays stopped all 22 shots he faced for the Irish before classmate Joe Rogers manned the net for the final 52 seconds.

Notre Dame held a 40-22 shot advantage and went 1-of-5 on the power play. BU was 0-for-4 with the man advantage, including one on a five-minute Irish major in the third.

A BU penalty late in the second carried over into the third and Costello converted in the opening moments of the period to give the Irish the lead. He took a pass from sophomore Sam Herr before converting at the left slot for the power-play tally.

Later in the third, Wuthrich kept the puck in the top of the BU zone after a failed clear by the Terriers and rifled home a shot to double the Notre Dame lead.

The Terriers will return to action on Friday (Feb. 28) when they play host to No. 9 Northeastern in the final home game of the season at 7 p.m. BU will honor its senior class prior to the contest and will retire former head coach Jack Parker's number during a first-intermission ceremony.
