Sept. 18, 2014
CALGARY, Alta. - Six current Boston University women's ice hockey players and five former Terriers are among the 58 athletes that will attend Canada’s National Women’s Team Fall Festival, taking place Sept. 22-28 in Calgary.
The group of six current skaters consists of at least one member of each graduating class, including seniors Marie-Philip Poulin and Shannon Doyle. Junior Sarah Lefort, sophomore Samantha Sutherland and freshmen Victoria Bach and Rebecca Leslie are also on the squad. The five former players are 2014 gold medalists Jenn Wakefield ('12) and Tara Watchorn ('12), 2014 Clarkson Cup champion Jenelle Kohanchuk ('13) and 2014 graduates and Hockey East First Team All-Stars Kaleigh Fratkin and Louise Warren.
The camp will serve as an important evaluation opportunity for Canada’s National Women’s Team coaching staff and Team Canada scouts. Following Canada’s National Women’s Team Fall Festival, players will be monitored at international events, such as the 2014 4 Nations Cup in Kamloops, B.C., as well as with their club teams during the 2014-15 season. These evaluations will assist coaches and scouts in selecting the team that will represent Canada at the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship in Malmö, Sweden, next April.
BU will be without its six camp attendees when the Terriers take the ice for their first exhibition contest of the season against Queens University at Walter Brown Arena on Sept. 27.
