BOSTON - San Francisco (3-2-1) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead against the Boston University women's soccer team on Sunday, which the Terriers (4-2-0) were unable to overcome, snapping their 16-game undefeated streak at Nickerson Field.
This was BU's first loss at home since dropping a 1-0 decision against Massachusetts on Sept. 14, 2012.
The Dons scored in the 10th minute to give BU an early deficit when a well-placed ball in front of the net allowed San Francisco's Jessica Nakae to score from the right side. Nakae was the only threat on offense for the Dons, recording all three of their shots for the day.
Senior forward Ana Cuffia had two good looks at the net on the afternoon including one taken from the top of the box in the 23rd minute that was saved and another with eight minutes to play that went just wide of the goal.
The BU defense allowed just two shots to get to sophomore goalie Bridget Conway, who had one save on the day. Boston's back line was especially effective in the second half, preventing the Dons from getting any shots off for the final 45 minutes.
The Terriers continue their five-game home stand against Akron at Nickerson Field on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.
