BU Drops A Heartbreaker At Lafayette, 67-60

EASTON, Pa. - The Boston University women's basketball team dropped another nail-biter, this time at Lafayette on Saturday afternoon at Kirby Sports Center. The Terriers held a lead at halftime for the second straight game but again lost it down the stretch, ultimately suffering a 67-60 loss to the Leopards.

Mollie McKendrick and Sarah Hope led the team with 16 points each while Corrine Williams scored a career-high 10 points. Courtney Latham contributed a personal-best seven assists and scored seven points of her own.

In another back-and-forth game that included seven ties and 11 lead changes, BU had one of its best shooting performances of the year, going 25-of-62 (40.3%) from the field including a 51.6 percent performance in the first half. Lafayette was held to 37.1 percent from the field but scored 13 points on the charity stripe compared to the Terrier's four free points.

The Leopards out-did the Terriers in second-chance points 20-11 and in points off of turnovers 17-9, two of the biggest difference makers in the game.

The first half was marked by five ties and six lead changes but the Terriers were the ones to come out on top due to sharp shooting by McKendrick and Hope, who both contributed 14 points in the first half and had just one miss apiece. McKendrick went 7-of-8 from the field while Hope went 5-of-6, including four three-point baskets.

After back-and-forth play, BU took the lead with five minutes remaining and kept it until the end of the first half, going into the locker room with a five-point lead, its largest of the game thus far.

Lafayette came out strong in the second stanza, chipping away at the Terrier advantage until the Leopards were able to take back the lead with less than 15 minutes remaining in the game. The lead was exchanged for the next nine minutes but Lafayette eventually pulled away in the final six minutes.

The Terriers resorted to fouling but couldn't convert on its possessions and the Leopards ended their two-game losing streak with a seven-point win.

BU is back in action on Wednesday, Jan.14 when the Terriers return home for a 7 p.m. game with Colgate.
