BOSTON - Junior Bea Baumberger Altirriba tallied two goals and added an assist to help the No. 17 Boston University field hockey team post a 5-3 victory over American on Saturday afternoon at New Balance Field.

Prior to the game, which was a matchup of the past two Patriot League champions, the Terriers honored the 30th anniversary of their 1985 team, which reached the final four in the program's first-ever NCAA tournament appearance.

The game featured three ties before the Terriers scored twice in the final 16 minutes to come away with the victory and remain in first place in the Patriot League standings. BU now stands at 7-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Senior Sofi Laurito provided the game-winner when she broke a 3-3 tie in the 55th minute. Baumberger Altirriba completed her five-point afternoon when she added an insurance goal with 2:58 left.

Senior Rachel Coll opened the scoring just 1:33 into the contest when she inserted the ball off a corner and then got to the left post, where Baumberger Altirriba found her for a wide-open look.

The Eagles quickly responded, as Rafaela Rubas scored from the top left of the circle off a corner just over a minute later. Natalie Konerth gave the visitors what would be their lone lead of the day in the 19th minute.

BU created a 2-2 draw entering the half when Baumberger Altirriba scored off a pass from Laurito at the 32:28 mark.

The Terriers regained the lead just under seven minutes into the second half when junior Amanda Cassera sent home a centering pass from sophomore Allie Renzi.

Another perfectly executed corner resulted in a 5-3 final, as Coll inserted the ball to junior Taylor Blood, who set up a shot for Baumberger Altirriba that she sent to the back of the cage with 2:58 to play.

American (7-4, 2-1 PL) used a corner to create the third tie of the game when Lucy Whalley took a direct insert from Jess Davis and had her elevated shot go off a defender and in at 47:27.

Laurito's game winner came off a corner when she pounced on a loose ball off a blocked shot and blasted a low shot off a reverse stick drive to the boards in the 55th minute.

The Terriers will return to action on Sunday when they visit crosstown rival Northeastern for a 3 p.m. contest.
