UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -
The Boston University women's soccer team's season came to a close in the NCAA Second Round as the Terriers suffered a 6-0 loss to No. 6 Penn State on Friday night at Jeffrey Field.
Despite a strong start and even first half, BU could not hold off the Nittany Lions coming out of halftime, as PSU scored four goals in the second half.
The Terriers put two shots on net and had some exciting chances in the box throughout the contest but were unable to score on the Nittany Lions, who are a No. 1 seed in the tournament.
Penn State outshot BU, 22-6, including 7-2 on net, which was helped by its eight corner opportunities. The Terriers were awarded just two throughout the game.
The Terrier defense held strong throughout the majority of the first half, not allowing a goal until the 28th minute when PSU's Frannie Crouse netted the game-winner, breaking away and shooting far-side past Alyssa Parisi.
The Terriers began to fight back on offense following the goal but couldn't get one past Britt Eckerstrom and with less than two minutes to remaining in the first period, PSU scored again off of a tough, 25-yard strike to the top right corner of the net.
Penn State did not relent in the second half and scored four more goals throughout the period to advance to help the Nittany Lions advance to the NCAA Third Round against Ohio State on Sunday.
