Second-Half Effort Puts Army On Top, 64-50

BOSTON - The Boston University women's basketball team dropped a 64-50 decision with Army on Wednesday night at Christl Arena. The Terriers (5-23, 2-15 PL) kept up with the Black Knights (21-6, 13-4) throughout the first half but a second-half surge put Army past BU.

Mollie McKendrick led the team with 15 points while Meghan Green contributed nine points and eight rebounds.

BU shot 37 percent overall while Army hit 48 percent of their attempts including a 7-of-14 performance from long range.

Both teams were even in nearly every other category, with both teams scoring 28 points in the paint, BU edging Army in second chance points, 8-5, and the Black Knights outrebounding BU 34-32.

Kelsey Minato was the only double-digit scorer for Army, scoring 26 points and going 5-of-8 from beyond the arc.

Despite an early six-point lead for Army, BU fought back and kept a close contest for the remainder of the first 20 minutes. Halfway through the period the Terriers found their first lead of the game, one that would switch six times throughout the course of the first half.

The Terriers jumped out to one of its best starts of the season, shooting over 54 percent (13-24) from the field during the first half. BU dominated in the post, scoring 20 points in the paint. McKendrick scored eight in the first half but all of the forwards were big contributors, with Kara Sheftic and Meghan Green each scoring six points.

BU didn't fair as well in the second half as Army opened the period on an 18-1 run to take its largest lead of the game, 55-34. McKendrick hit the Terriers' first field goal of the second half over seven minutes into it, and from there BU kept pace with the Black Knights but ultimately could not overcome the deficit and suffered a 64-50 loss.

The Terriers wrap up the regular season with a game at Holy Cross on Saturday at 1 p.m.
