The Boston University men's rowing team swept Columbia and Syracuse on the Charles River on Saturday morning, retaining the Lusins Cup (Columbia) and the Conlan Cup (Syracuse). With the victories, the Terriers now have won six of the last seven Lusins Cup and four of the last five Conlan Cup races.

The Terriers' No. 6 ranked varsity eight boat raced first and got things started on the right track. Racing into a light head wind, the V8, coxed by senior Lauren Harvey and stroked by junior Vass Ragoussis, pulled ahead of Columbia and Syracuse by about four seats at the start. The Terriers were able to extend their lead over the second thousand towards the finish. BU finished with a time of 6:16, ahead of second-place Syracuse by open water (6:23) with Columbia getting passed at the finish and falling to third (6:23.6).

"It was good racing all around," said senior JP Aftring who sat in the bow for the varsity eight boat. "There are parts to improve on and parts that we executed really well today I thought. We are heading into our final race of the year next week before Eastern Sprints, so this is an important time to be rowing well and I think we are."

The second varsity eight boat was up next and continued BU's winning ways. Coxed by freshman MacKenzie Hart and stroked by senior Gregor Dierks, the 2V separated from Syracuse early then pulled ahead of Columbia at the halfway point. The Terriers continued to lengthen their lead and finished with a time of 6:16, ahead of second-place Columbia by open water (6:23) and well ahead of Syracuse (6:28).

The third varsity eight boat, coxed by freshman Justin Goucher and stroked by junior Drew Miller, pulled away early and cruised to an easy victory. Showing their depth as a team, Terriers' 3V finished with a fast time of 6:24, well ahead of second-place Syracuse (6:35) and Columbia (6:55).

The BU 4V raced Harvard and Syracuse in the final race of the day and completed the Terriers' sweep of all four races. Coxed by freshman Jeanne Garner and stroked by junior Rajagopal Srinivas, the 4V finished with a time of 6:38, well ahead of second-place Harvard (6:48) and third-place Columbia (6:49).

Saturday's sweep made if four straight cup victories for the Terriers this spring. BU has now defeated Northeastern (Arlett Cup), Dartmouth and Rutgers (Bill Cup), Columbia (Lusins Cup) and Syracuse (Conlan Cup) over three consecutive weekends.

After the races, Boston University men's rowing honored its six seniors who will be graduating this year. Saturday marked the final home races for JP Aftring, Gregor Dierks, Kep Edwards, Lauren Harvey, Dan Relle and Tomas Weaver.

"This group has done nothing but work hard, hold a high level of integrity and always put the team above themselves,' said men's head rowing coach Thomas Bohrer before the race about this year's senior class. "They have been loyal to the coaching staff and we want them to know how much we appreciate them."

BU will look to make it five-straight cup wins next Saturday when they travel to Wisconsin to face the Badgers for the Jablonic Cup on May 2nd. The Terriers will then have a week off before the Eastern Sprints on May 17.
