NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Despite an explosive second half, the Boston University women's soccer team settled for a 1-1 tie at Central Connecticut State on Friday night.

BU put together its best attack of the season but their impressive tries were stopped by the Blue Devil defense, which totaled 11 saves throughout the game.

The Terriers dominated the stat line, especially in the second stanza where they put six of their nine shots on the net as CCSU managed just three total shots in the period. Overall, BU outshot the Blue Devils 19-8, including six more attempts on net.

Alyssa Parisi tallied five saves, including a clutch stop in the final minute of the overtime period to preserve the tie.

Central Connecticut came out strong and found the first goal of the game in just the fourth minute of play. A soft shot taken from just inside the box, which Parisi attempted to bat away, slipped past the right post to give the Blue Devils an early lead.

McKenna Doyle, BU's points leader, found the Terrier's first real opportunity of the game in the 20th minute when she collected the ball in front of the six-yard box. Despite time to settle and shoot, however, the freshman sent the ball just inches over the crossbar and the score stayed with a CCSU advantage.

Jenna Fisher had the answer late in the first half, netting the equalizer in the 38th minute. The captain juked a defender and shot through traffic to the top left side of the net to tie the game at 1-1.

In the closing minute of the first half, Alex Schlobohm had the Blue Devils nervous when her shot hit the crossbar, but it bounced out instead of back, narrowly missing a go-ahead goal and the Terriers settled for a tie at the midpoint.

Boston University came out of halftime with enthusiasm and found several early opportunities. BU was awarded a free shot in the 47th minute from 23-yards out but Pleuler's shot went high to keep the game tied.

Soon after, a corner by Pleuler in the 50th minute causes trouble inside the box and the ball eventually finds Julianna Chen, who's shot gets past the goalie but CCSU's Cailynn Harding manages to get her head on it for the defensive save.

In the 84th minute, BU finds its final offensive try of regulation as Pleuler serves a corner into the box, which Rachel Blauner finds with her head but the shot is blocked. Doyle collects the rebound however she can't settle enough and her shot is sent high over the net.

For the third time this season, the Terriers headed into a pair of overtimes, during which both teams managed just one shot apiece. The BU defense turned it into high-gear, clearing four CCSU corners through the final 20 minutes to help preserve the tie.

The Terriers host their home-opener on Sunday, Sept. 13 as Hofstra visits Nickerson Field for a 2 p.m. kick.
