BOSTON - Nickerson Field was just what the Terriers needed as the Boston University women's soccer team won its second straight contest, 2-1, on Thursday night against Providence.

The Terriers (2-4-2) maintain their perfect series record with the Friars (6-3-0), moving to 5-0-0 all-time.

BU out-did PC in every offensive category, outshooting the Friars 7-5 and winning nine corners while denying Providence any free chances.

Alyssa Parisi made two saves throughout the contest thanks to a limiting defense while PC's Kristyn Shea also stopped two attempts.

The Terriers got off to one of their best starts all season, which culminated in a goal just 20 minutes into the contest. Christina Wakefield sent a ball ahead from 25 yards out which McKenna Doyle met after beating two defenders and the goalie to tap a soft shot into the back of the net and give BU a 1-0 lead.

Though BU dominated possession for the rest of the half, the Terriers were unable to find another scoring opportunity and went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

The Friars started the second stanza with purpose, catching the Terriers off guard for enough time to tie the game 15 minutes into the half. PC's Lauren Elia collected a ball that the BU defense failed to clear out of the box and bent one just inside the left post to even the score at 1-1.

While both teams kept the pressure on, the game was ultimately decided by a goalie miscue that resulted in an own-goal in BU's favor. Rachel Bloznalis served a corner into the box, which was misfired but collected by a Terrier, who sent a cross into traffic. PC's goalkeeper attempted to punch it away but mishandled it and sent it backwards into her own net to give BU a 2-1 advantage and ultimately the win.

Boston University is back in action on Sunday for the Patriot League opener against Bucknell at 2 p.m. on Nickerson Field.
