HAMILTON, N.Y. - Juniors Taylor Blood and Hester van der Laan led an impressive offensive effort with two goals apiece to help push the No. 17 Boston University field hockey team to a dominant 9-0 victory over Colgate on Saturday afternoon at Tyler's Field.
Senior Sofi Laurito, juniors Sara Martineau and Madeline McClain and sophomore Grace Boston all found the back of the cage and freshman Kara Enoch recorded her first collegiate goal as the Terriers improved to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in Patriot League play.
BU put up four goals before halftime and held a 33-3 advantage in shots. The Terriers earned 10 corners and allowed four to the Raiders, who got an 11-save performance from Maria Krull. Junior Cammy Jensen stopped both shots she faced before freshman Kathleen Keegan played the final 6:23 in her collegiate debut to complete the shutout.
The 9-0 result was the most decisive road win in program history and marked the biggest goal total and differential by the Terriers since a 9-0 home win over UMBC on Oct. 7, 2006.
Blood opened the scoring on a goal in transition as she took a pass from freshman Ally Hammel before sneaking the ball in between Krull's legs at the 8:30 mark.
Both of Van der Laan's goals came off penalty strokes with first first occurring at 15:14 after a saved shot went off the body of a Colgate defender.
Boston scored her third goal of the season in the 26th minute when she created space for a shot from the top of the circle that snuck inside the left post.
BU made it a 4-0 affair before halftime as Blood completed her two-goal day when she penetrated the left circle before beating Krull to the near side.
Another converted penalty stroke by Van der Laan at the 44:21 mark resulted in her sixth goal of the season and a 5-0 BU lead.
Enoch's first Terrier tally was a redirect in the middle of the circle off a pass by McClain in the 53rd minute. That made it a 6-0 contest and Laurito buried a shot off a penalty corner off an assist by junior Bea Baumberger Altirriba just over five minutes later.
Martineau scored her first goal of the season when she fired a shot from the right side that found the far corner in the 64th minute. Van der Laan assisted on the play to complete a five-point performance.
Enoch and McClain teamed up again to create a 9-0 final. Enoch returned the favor as she found McClain for a redirect on a penalty corner with 4:45 left in regulation.
BU will return to action on Sunday (Sept. 27) when they visit second-ranked and undefeated Syracuse in a rematch of last season's NCAA First Round contest. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
