HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After BU forced a turnover, junior David Amirani sent a long pass from midfield up toward senior Felix De Bona, who got around the charging goalkeeper on the left side and fired a shot toward the middle of the net at 17:55. A Lafayette defender was in front of the goal but was unable to get in proper position to clear the ball, as the Terriers grabbed the 1-0 lead.
  • The Leopards' leading goal scorer Evan Vare was brought down in the BU box in the 27th minute but was unable to convert on the penalty kick attempt, as Gilbert doved toward his right to stop the low grounder.
  • Junior Anthony Viteri's header was just inches wide left of giving BU an insurance score in the 47th minute.
  • The missed opportunity did not matter, as Gilbert made several impressive saves, including his final one in the 86th minute at the right post on a hard shot from Vare.

GAME NOTES

  • BU was previously 0-3-2 before today's win over the Leopards.
  • The Terriers claimed their third shutout of the season behind Gilbert's nine saves, which were one shy of his personal best that had been set twice earlier this season.
  • Though Lafayette's Brad Seeber only stopped one BU attempt, the Leopards only finished ahead in shot attempts, 18-14.
  • With his sixth goal of the season, De Bona is now tied with Viteri (5g, 2a) for the team lead in points at 12 apiece.
  • Amirani became the 11th Terrier to tally a point this season on his helper to De Bona.
  • Prior to the game, the program recognized the many alums in attendance, who earlier in the day participated in the annual alumni game.

NEXT UP: DARTMOUTH

  • The Terriers will next host Dartmouth Tuesday (Oct. 18) at 7 p.m.  in the final non-conference game of the regular season.
  • BU will be holding Faculty & Staff Appreciation Night, which includes free admission to the game for BU faculty and staff. Registration can be accessed at GoTerriers.com/thankyou.
  • BU last played Dartmouth on the road in 2014 and pulled out a 3-1 upset win over the then-No. 25 ranked Big Green.
