The 15th-ranked Boston University field hockey team will return to Patriot League play on Saturday (Oct. 8) when it visits Bucknell for an 11 a.m. contest at Graham Field. The game will be broadcast live on the Patriot League Network.
The Terriers (7-4, 1-1 Patriot League) will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak, their longest since one of the same length 13 seasons ago. Bucknell also sports a 1-1 record in league play and is 4-6 overall. American (3-0) and Lafayette (2-0) are atop the league standings as the two remaining unbeaten teams.
BU's last contest took place on Sunday when it came up just short in a 2-1 decision on the road against then-No. 3 Duke. Coming off a hard-fought 4-3 loss to defending national champion Syracuse, the Bison have dropped their past three contests. Their wins this season have come against Albany, Rutgers, Lehigh and Quinnipiac.Â
The Terriers have won six of their seven all-time meetings with the Bison, including a 3-2 triumph in double overtime in last season's Patriot League semifinal at New Balance Field. The lone loss took place in 2014 in their first-ever trip to Lewisburg. BU has faced Bucknell in each of the past three Patriot League tournaments.
This season's Bison squad is led by sophomore Nicole Rupnik, who has team highs in both points (11) and goals (5). She scored on both of her shot attempts against Syracuse last weekend. Freshman Brittany Willwerth (4g, 1a) and junior Stephanie Dressler (3g, 3a) each have nine points on the year. Senior Amy Mucelli and Anna Wills were named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team.
Junior Emily Finn has played every minute in goal for the Bison this fall and sports a .710 save percentage to go along with a 3.00 goals-against average.
Senior Taylor Blood has taken over the scoring lead for the Terriers with 13 points on four goals and five assists. Classmate Amanda Cassera is right behind with 12 points (5g, 2a) while freshman Ally Hammel (4g, 3a) and senior Hester van der Laan (5g, 1a) have contributed 11 points apiece.Â
In all 11 games this season, senior Cammy Jensen has earned the start in goal for the Terriers. She currently has a .724 save percentage and a 1.44 goals-against average.Â
